Using Open Source and Commercial Tools for Mobile Data Collection and Web Visualization of Stormwater Assets

Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) falls under a municipal separate storm sewer system (MS4) permit which requires reporting a range of information on the structure and status of stormwater assets and potential areas of concern including bus stops and VTA owned properties.  Most of the information on the stormwater system was only accessible through PDF As-Builts.  Thus, field verification and data collection was required to ensure accurate information.  To reduce the cost of purchasing expensive hardware and software, VTA utilized an open source mobile platform, AmigoCloud, to collect and organize data in the field and office.  This data was then exported and shared as a service using ArcGIS Server and visualized in an editable web service through Geocortex Essentials.  Within Geocortex Essentials the user can edit the geometry, add additional attributes, change symbolization, create reports, and print complete maps.  This program is a living program and is constantly being developed and improved.
