Earth observation imagery from satellites, drones, and ground vehicles is growing in size, resolution, and volume at prodigious rates. Raster Foundry is a new open source software platform for storing, visualizing, and analyzing earth observation data at scale. With funding from two research grants with NASA and the Department of Energy, Azavea, has been leveraging GeoTrellis, a LocationTech project, to develop the new platform. Raster Foundry can access and search data from NASA and ESA sensors, the Radiant open imagery network, Earth on AWS, Planet and other sources. Multiple sources can be combined to perform color correction, create custom mosaics, and analyze data. This talk will introduce the technologies on which Raster Foundry is being built and the lessons learned thus far. The session will close with a demonstration of Raster Foundry.
