California's complex water quality regulatory system of overlapping laws, plans, policies and guidelines makes it difficult to determine the particular standards that apply to a specific water body. To address the problem, the CA Water Resources Control Board and CSU Northridge developed a geospatial database that maps the relevant uses and water quality thresholds to the high-resolution National Hydrologic Dataset. This dataset now forms a key component of the Water Board’s data infrastructure.
