Global Indoor Positioning - Filling the GNSS Gap

Session details
Session Type:
Experience level:

Location context has become increasingly important in the way we communicate, navigate and access services – it allows businesses to connect with customers – and we can all find exactly what we want, wherever we are, in an instant.

GPS and other global navigation satellite systems (GNSS) including Galileo, GLONASS, and BeiDou, have been deployed to provide location information for vehicles and mobile devices around the world.  In order to work accurately, line-of-sight visibility to sufficient number of satellites is required.  Indoor environments such as shopping malls, airports, hospitals and stadiums – or even built-up urban areas – are GNSS black spots.

sensewhere has developed innovative indoor positioning technology that provides position and navigation data where GNSS signals are blocked – filling the gap.  This solution has been deployed at scale in China with Tencent Holding Inc, publisher of the WeChat appliation and others.  With over 600 million active users, the solution is automatically crowdsourcing infrastructure data throughout China to deliver precise indoor positioning throughout indoor venues.

In this presentation we will share case study insights and experiences from the Tencent deployement.  See how location data can be obtained indoors on a wide scale without costly investment in additional infrastructure or manual surveying.  Understand the myriad use cases enabled by accurate indoor positioning on a connected mobile device.
