GIS Workflow at the Heart of NG9-1-1

This NG9-1-1 Workshop shows how GIS is at the heart of NG9-1-1 and is aimed at the GIS professional who is currently supporting or may soon support their emergency communications division in the future or the PSAP stakeholder interested in learning more about the data needed to support the ESInet.  Deadlines are looming for the GIS Professional to have their data and workflows in place by 2020 to support NG9-1-1.

In a fully operational next generation 911 system, GIS is the core component in determining how a 911 call is routed to the correct public safety answering point (PSAP). This will have profound impacts on local maintenance workflows, local data access, and data fidelity. Further, there is a need to examine the soon to be published data standards and the required data quality validation’s you will need to process your data through.

We recognize there is a sincere lack of education available aimed at the GIS professional who may not be as well versed with the 911 terminology or needs. This workshop is intended to provide an overview of next generation 911, GIS’ role in such a system, the implications on local workflows, and illustrate common pain points and sources of errors in local GIS datasets.  Topics covered:

 PSAP (Call Center) Operations Overview
 9‐1‐1 Technology, Terminology & Standards
 GIS and Next Generation 9‐1‐1
 Getting Your GIS Ready
 The addressing workflow: going beyond just an address point
 Real‐World Examples and Lessons Learned

This Workshop is an updated and refocused interactive presentation of a similar workshop presented at CalGIS in Anaheim last year.  The content is focused on the GIS Professional and their role in providing data specifically tailored to NG9-1-1 needs and the workflows and validation required for success.  This workshop is a URISA sponsored workshop so as to provide the attendees with the additional benefits of a completion certificate, additional points toward GISP certification, and backing by URISA.
